Bristol-Plymouth Practical Nurse Program

Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School offers a Practical Nurse Program which is fully approved be the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. Graduation from the Practical Nurse Program qualifies the student to apply for the National Council License Examination for Practical Nurse (NCLEX-PN) to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).




PROGRAM CONTENT

Full-Time Day Program: The full-time day program begins every September and runs for ten months (forty weeks). Class is in session Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Part-Time Evening Program:The part-time evening program runs twenty months (eighty weeks) over the course of two years and begins every other September. Class is in session three evenings per week beginning at 4:00 p.m. The next part-time program will begin in September 2013.




HOW TO APPLY

Full-Time Day Program: Applicants can submit an application (link found below) for admission to the full-time day program beginning in September 2013.

Part-Time Evening Program: Applications are accepted every other year. Applicants can submit an application (link found below) for admission to the part-time evening class beginning in September 2013 and concluding in June 2015.

PRE-ENTRANCE TESTING

All candidates must pass the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) test to be eligible for consideration for admission to either program. All applicants are required to take TEAS test Version V. Bristol-Plymouth considers the following Adjusted Individual Scores as passing:

70% - Reading
63.3% - Mathematics
60% - English


The TEAS test will be given at Bristol Plymouth starting in November 2012. Click on the link below for the current TEAS registration form(s). Testing dates will be listed on the registration form.

TEAS REGISTRATION MAY/JUNE 2013

Pre-registration is required for all testing. Candidates will not be admitted without prior registration and payment of the testing fee ($40.00 Money Order). The pre-entrance exam fee is non-refundable. Passing scores on the entrance test is determined by the Practical Nurse Program and are posted above and on the registration form. Candidates are allowed to test two times per year. Test scores are valid for a period of two years.

It is highly recommended that you remediate and review prior to taking the test. The following schools in the area are offering TEAS V Test Preparation Courses to help you prepare to take the TEAS at Bristol-Plymouth:

Books and uniforms are additional.

Bristol-Plymouth does not participate in student federal financial aid programs (FASFA). A payment plan for tuition is available. Once accepted into the program, a non-refundable deposit of $1,000.00 for in-district or $1,500.00 for out-of-district students is due.




Admission Requirements

Candidates for the Practical Nurse Program are required to:

1. Complete an application and remit to the Program director with a $30.00 application fee.
2. Submit an official high school transcript (regardless of number of years attended) as proof of High School graduation from a High School recognized by the Department of Education or state High School Equivalency Credential (G.E.D.). Foreign diplomas must be translated to English and a certified equivalency to U.S. education must be provided.
3. Two (2) professional references completed on the Practical Nurse Program Reference form included in this packet: one reference must be from a present employer.
4. Register for, take, and obtain passing scores (as determined by the Practical Nurse Program) on the pre-entrance exam. Candidates are allowed to test two (2) times per year, regardless of the testing facility. Test scores are valid for a period of two (2) years.
5. Interview with the director and/or Faculty member of the Admissions Committee.

Additional requirements must be met upon acceptance:

1. Satisfactory CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) as determined by the superintendent.
2. Satisfactory physical exam within 1 year prior to the program start date that demonstrates the candidate’s health will enable her/him to function without limitation in the program as evidenced by a physician’s exam and statement.
3. Proof of age documentation with a birth certificate or valid passport.
4. Proof of current health insurance for the duration of the program.
5. Immunizations as required by the Dept. of Public Health (http://www.mass.gov/eohhs/docs/dph/cdc/immunization/guidelines-adult.pdf):
three doses of Hepatitis B, one Td booster within the last 10 years, 2 doses of measles, one dose of mumps, one dose of rubella and one dose of Varicella. Proof of Immunity by titer will also be accepted. Proof of tuberculin testing, as evidenced by a negative result, within one year of beginning the program. If PPD is positive, documentation from a physician stating that the applicant is free from active tuberculosis must be provided and the date of the last chest x-ray.
6. Proof of CPR certification (BLS for Healthcare Providers including infant, child, and adult CPR and AED training) for the duration of the program.

Selection of candidates for admission is based in part on the following considerations:
1. Personal interview.
2. Previous course of study that reflects success in Science, English, and Math.
3. Average grade of C or better in high school is preferred with consideration for trends demonstrating improvement and motivation.
4. Post secondary education or certifications.
5. Prior work experience in health care or a related field.
