Listed below are the scholarships that are currently available in the guidance office. Some may be past due. As new scholarships arrive the list will be updated on the BP website. Seniors are encouraged to pick up applications for scholarships and to return them by deadline to the designated authority. Any questions about scholarships please contact your guidance counselor.

1. The Prudential Spirit of Community Award – Over the past 12 years, The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards have become the country’s largest and most prestigious recognition program for middle level and high school youth (in grades 5-12) who volunteer in their communities. This year, students have until October 31 to apply online through www.prudential.com/spirit or www.principals.org/prudential (access key: SPIRIT). After submitting their applications electronically, applicants must print them out, sign them and give them to their school principal, who selects the school’s top applicants and then certifies that individual’s application online at http://soa.spaprog.net and by fax.

2. Voice of Democracy: Scholarship available to anyone in any grade
The Veterans of Foreign Wars’ (VFW) premier scholarship program, each year, more than 100,000 high school students compete for more than 2.5 million in scholarships and incentives. Students compete by writing and recording broadcast script on an annual patriotic theme. This year’s theme is “My Role in Honoring America’s Veterans”
Entries should be submitted to VFW posted by midnight on November 1, 2007

3. BURGER KING Scholars Program - This scholarship awards $1,000 each and may be used for educational expenses, such as tuition fees and books, during the first year of college or post-secondary vocational/technical school. For a student to qualify, he/she must be a high school senior and a U.S. resident that meets their criteria. 4. The Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund 2008 – 2009 – Offering scholarships to students with financial need who display academic excellence, strong citizenship and character, and a desire to make a meaningful contribution to society. In most cases, The Phillips Scholarship award ranges from $3,000 – $10,000 yearly. The award is renewable for up to 4 undergraduate years providing there is continued financial eligibility and the student maintains a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. 5. New England Plumbing, Gas & Mechanical Inspectors Association – Each year the New England Association of Plumbing, Gas, Mechanical Inspectors presents an Award/scholarship in the amount of $2,000, to be awarded in 4 - $500. The candidate must be in their last year of a vocational-technical high school with course credits reflecting a major in PLUMBING; GAS FITTING; REFRIGERATION or HVAC MECHANICAL and who, after graduation, will pursue additional studies in these fields at an accredited institution of higher learning, or will enter the work force actively employed in one of these trades.
All applications must be received by December 16, 2007 in order to be eligible.

8. Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation – This academic year marks the 20th Class of Coca-Cola Scholars. If you are truly a motivated, dedicated, involved high school senior, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation is awarding $3 million a year in scholarships to 250 deserving students just like you. Apply online today. A few minutes of your time could help get you through college and beyond. Deadline to receive completed applications: October 31. 9. American Welding Society (AWS) National Scholarship Program: provides funding for students seeking an undergraduate degree in welding engineering, welding technology, or a welding related field as specified in each scholarship. Each of these scholarships has specific requirements related to qualification. 10. Rochester Institute of Technology National Science Fair – any student in grades 9-12 can submit your most interesting or challenging science project, either individually or as a team. Projects will be judges and winners will receive cash awards, plaques and other prizes. For more information visit: www.rit.edu/NTID/ScienceFair

11. Free CNA/HHA Training – The Massachusetts CAN/HHA Scholarship Program sponsors FREE CNA and HHA training for qualified individuals who would like to become Certified Nurse Assistants (CNAs) and/or Home Health Aides (HHAs) and work in long term care. Home maker training is also available at select training sites. The Scholarship Program covers the full cost of training, including the CNA state certification exam. It is administered by the Massachusetts Extended Care Federation (MECF) and funded through the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. If you are interested in pursuing a scholarship, please contact directly one of the program’s 19 participating training providers at 1-800-CARE-FOR or log onto www.LongTermCareCareers.org.

12. Johnson & Wales University National High School Chef of the Year – More than $600,000 in scholarships will be awarded to this year’s Chef of the Year contest winners. Your entry could win a full scholarship to Johnson & Wales University, the world-renowned culinary educator. Johnson & Wales University, invites high school seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshmen to enter their challenge. Through this competition, which receives national media attention, you could earn scholarship dollars to one of JWU’s four campuses (Providence, R.I.; North Miami, Fla.; Denver, Colo. Or Charlotte, N.C.)

13. Region One New England, Massachusetts JCI Senate Inc. Junior Chamber International Life Members of Junior Chamber International Senate –

The Massachusetts JCI Senate Inc. offers annually two (2) $500.00 Grants to graduating high school seniors.

The United States JCI Senate Scholarship Foundation offers annually up to twenty (20) $1,000 Grants to graduating high school seniors.

14. Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest - This contest is open to all High school juniors in the Greater Taunton area. Winner of essay will receive a $200.00 cash prize. Deadline for essay is by December 9, 2007. Please check scholarship bin for additional information and guidelines.

15. NAAAP-Boston (The National Association of Asian American Professionals) - The Future Leadership Awards competition is open to all Massachusetts high school seniors of Asian descent graduating in the spring of 2008. A minimum of $5,000 will be awarded to each recipient. Both merit and need based awards will be given. Applications must be postmarked on or before Friday February 1, 2008.

16. The National Co-Op Scholarship Program – To qualify for a merit co-op scholarship, students must complete all the required admissions material and be accepted for the 2008-2009 academic year at one or more of the ten NCCE Partner Colleges and Universities: Drexel University, Johnson & Wales University, Kettering University, C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, Northeastern University, Pace University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo, Wentworth Institute of Technology. 17. The American Legion Oratorical Committee – the 71st annual Legion National High School Oratorical Contest is encouraging students to participate. Top prize on the Department level is $1,000 plus an additional $1,500 when the contestant participates in the national competition. Any student is eligible to participate in this contest. For additional information please review contest brochure located in scholarship bin. Closing date for applications is December 30, 2007.

18. Massachusetts AFL-CIO 50th annual scholarship program – This scholarship is available to all high school seniors living in MA. Students will need to take a test consisting of 40 multiple choice questions whose answers will need to be clear through careful reading of the study guide.
Applications and study guides can be downloaded on the following website, please visit: http://massaflcio.org/Education/scholarships.asp. Please fill out the scholarship application and give to Mrs. Magny-Black by December 21, 2007. Make a copy of the study guide for yourselves and STUDY! As the test is comprised of questions from the study guide. The test will be proctored by Mrs. Magny-Black and given on February 6, 2008.

19. Henry David Thoreau Foundation – The Henry David Thoreau Foundation is dedicated to encouraging highly talented and academically successful young women and men to pursue undergraduate studies preparing them for leadership in advancing global health by protecting the environment and ensuring equitable use of the world’s natural resources. The candidates must also be enrolled in and graduate from a high school in Massachusetts. Students with strong academic qualifications and a commitment to the environmental field may apply for an undergraduate scholarship totaling up to $30,000, usually distributed at $7,500 per year for tuition use only, to the student’s institution of choice.
The application due date is February 1. Scholarship notification takes place no later than April 30th.

20. American Planning Association 2007-2008 – Essay Contest to help encourage high school students across the country to address critical planning issues that are facing their own communities. 1st place winner will receive $5,000 scholarship to the college or university of choice. 10 honorable mentions will receive $100 gift certificate to APA’s planningbooks.com The contest is open to all students who meet the following criteria: (1) are high school juniors or seniors during the 2007-2008 academic year; (2) are enrolled in a public or private high school, in a high school equivalency program, or in a program of home schooling recognized by the local school system; and (3) are residents of the United States or U.S. Territory, or who are U.S. citizens living abroad. 21. Rochester Institute of Technology – Spirit Writing Contest – 10th and 11th grade writers with hearing loss can enter this contest. For additional information please visit www.rit.edu/NTID/WritingContest1

22. WAL*MART Corporate Giving – The 2008 Sam Walton Community Scholarship is available through www.walmartfoundation.org. The deadline for entry is a postmark of January 14, 2008 for online submission as well as mailing required documents. This scholarship is a non-renewable $1,000 award for the student’s first year of undergraduate study at an approved accredited college or university. To qualify, the student must be a graduating high school senior and may not be a Wal-Mart stores, Inc. or Sam’s Club associate, or the child or legal dependent of a Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. or Sam’s club associate.

23. KFC Colonel’s Scholars scholarship - is looking for outstanding seniors with financial need and entrepreneurial spirit to qualify for the Colonel’s Scholars program. To qualify, a student must be: Graduating from high school this academic year (between 12/1/07 – 8/31/08), Enrolling in a public college or university within their state of legal residence, A U.S. citizen or permanent resident, Maintaining a high school cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher, Pursuing a bachelor’s degree. 24. New England Institute of Technology Scholarships and Contests 2007 – Opportunities for juniors and seniors to participate in various competitions. The competitions are designed to encourage students to explore career choices and the employment skills required. Contest information and registration can be found at the “What’s New” section of NEIT’s web site at www.neit.edul. The top three winning students in each contest will be recognized with NEIT tuition scholarships.

1st place = $2,000. 2nd place $1,500, and 3rd place $1,000.
Requirements – Essay contest open to juniors and seniors, essays are to be typed and double-spaced on 8 ½ X 11 paper, the student’s name and high school must appear at the top of each sheet, a cover sheet must accompany the student’s essay. The cover sheet must have the essay contest, student’s name, home address, phone number, high school name and graduation date, essays are to be 500-750 words in length, all essays are to be submitted with cover sheet no later than March 19, 2008 to Amanda Metzger, Admissions Office, New England Institute of Technology, 2500 Post Road, Warwick, RI 02886, Students can enter as many contests as they wish.

25. The Rebekah Assembly of Massachusetts Independent order of Odd Fellows Memorial Scholarship Application – This scholarship offers one ($500) scholarship to a qualified senior who plans on furthering their education by attending a two or four year college program. All of the following criteria need to be met in order to apply for scholarship: statement of need of a scholarship (include family circumstance), One adult personal letter of reference from outside of school, two educational letters of reference, academic/scholastic record from high school, personal statement explaining your goals, financial status, members of your family, etc. Please come to the guidance office and get a copy of this application if you are interested. Application deadline if March 15, 2008.

26. BCC Scholars Program – The Bristol Community College Presidential Scholars Program is a selective program for high-achieving students who plan to enroll at BCC and transfer to competitive four-year institutions. To qualify for this scholarship the requirements are as follows: Must apply for admission to BCC, Competitive SAT scores or in the top 20 percent of high school class, Commitment to transferring to a private institution, Plan to attend BCC as a full-time student, Recommendation from Guidance Counselor or other appropriate high school official. If you are planning on applying to BCC and meet the listed requirements please fill out Scholars application from the bin in guidance.

27. NELNET – Win a scholarship up to $25,000 or $1,000. No essay, or test scores are required. Winning is as simple as filling out the online entry form at www.nelnet.com/win. Students can enter online daily to increase their chances of winning, or their parents can enter them as well.

28. AFA (Alzheimer’s Foundation of America) TEENS – In an effort to provide an outlet for teenagers to express their thoughts about Alzheimer’s disease and to engage the younger generation in this important cause, AFA is please to announce a $5,000 scholarship that will be awarded to one deserving college-bound student annually. This scholarship provides an excellent opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to give thoughtful consideration to the impact Alzheimer’s disease has on their own lives and others in their family and community. To qualify, students must be entering a four-year accredited college or university within 12 months of application deadline. For more details and to print application forms go to: www.afateens.org. 29. General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Massachusetts 2008 Scholarships -offers the following scholarships: (please come to the guidance bin for additional information on these scholarships)
Art Scholarship up to $800 for undergraduate study. (Personal statement no more than 500 words, letter of recommendation, official transcript, three pieces of original art work) Application and artwork must be received no later than March 1, 2008.
Music Scholarship up to $800 for major in piano, other instrument, music education, music therapy or voice. (Personal statement, letter of recommendation, official transcript) Completed applications sent to the chairman postmarked no later than March 1, 2008.
Newtonville Woman’s Club Scholarship $600 scholarship for education/teaching Senior in MA high school who will enroll in a four year accredited college or university in a teacher training program that leads to certification in teaching. (Personal statement, letter of recommendation, official transcript) Completed application postmarked no later than March 1, 2008.

30. G.A.R. Post #3 Scholarship – seniors who are residents of Taunton and who plan to further their education after graduation can apply for this scholarship. Requirements are to: fill out application, prepare a 150 word essay that covers the topic of the “The American Civil War”, and also include high school transcript then mail to designated address on application. Application deadline is April 20, 2008.

31. The Massachusetts Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (MRAEF), in partnership with the NRA Education Foundation (NRAEF), will be offering scholarships up to $2,000 to students continuing their education in a culinary arts or restaurant or foodservice management program at the college level. Eligible students include: high school seniors (both ProStart and non-ProStart high school graduates; undergraduate college students; and GED credential holders) A copy of the application is in the guidance scholarship bin. If you would like more copies, you can download them from the MRA website at www.marestaurantassoc.org. Application deadline: April 15, 2008.

32. Taunton Development Corporation Scholarship Fund – has been established to annually award a minimum of three scholarships in the minimum amount of $500.00 each. Any student in his or her senior year in one of the local high schools in Taunton is eligible. The following is a list of requirements:
a. Senior formally applied or accepted to an institution of higher learning
b. Student must have participated in extra curricular activities while in high school.
c. Financial need of student and family is taken into consideration.
d. Academic success must be demonstrated
e. Student must be a good citizen of the student body.
Deadline for applications is March 14, 2008

33. Growing up with Asthma or Severe Allergies: Challenges I faced and How I met them 2008 Scholarship Contest for high school seniors– All high school seniors who have asthma or significant allergies, who live in New England, (CT, MA, ME, NH, RI, VT) who have attained a level of excellence in academic and or extra-curricular activities, and who submit complete applications postmarked by the February 15, 2008 deadline. The winners will be featured in AAFA/NE press releases, publications and website, and appear at events and speak to the press if requested by AAFA/NE; winners will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
Requirements:
1.) An original essay addressing the title. The essay must be written by the student. The completed essay should be no longer than one page (minimum font size 11). – Section 3
2.) Signed authorizations – Section 4
3.) Requested information and signatures from guidance counselor, other school personnel and physician. Sections 6, 7, 8
4.) Official school transcript
5.) Addresses of local newspapers where press releases will be submitted if you are selected as a winner or honorable mention. – Section 5

Only complete applications postmarked by Feb 15, 2008 will be considered.

34. Plymouth Aero Club is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for this year Aviation Scholarships. The scholarships are to be used towards post secondary education or training in the pursuit of a career in aviation, i.e.: Aviation Management, Aviation Maintenance, Flight or other aviation related careers. Applicants must reside, work or attend school within Plymouth County. Recipients will be selected based upon academic standing, personal and professional recommendation and financial need. Deadline for applications is April 30, 2008.

35. Bridgewater Savings Bank Scholarship – This $1000.00 scholarship is awarded to a qualified senior here at Bristol-Plymouth who is applying to at least a two-year school and who meets the other criteria and eligibility requirements. Deadline for this application is no later than April 11, 2008. All applications should be given to: Mrs. Magny-Black in guidance.

36. 2008 Grady-Rayam Prize in Sacred Music Competition (Massachusetts) – Academically qualified senior high students (grades 11-12) of Afro-ethnic descent who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents currently attending school in any district of the state of Massachusetts are eligible. Each entrant will be required to perform two songs, one assigned and one selected. Entrants will be sent a study copy of the assigned piece, which will be performed to the accompaniment of a single keyboard instrument (acoustic piano) using a staff accompanist. A tuition assistance grant in the amount of three thousand dollars ($3,000) and a cash prize in the amount of three hundred dollars ($300) will be awarded to adjudged winners in the separate categories of female vocalist and male vocalist. For additional scholarship requirements and application please stop by the bin in the guidance office. Application deadline is by February 27th, 2008

37. AARP Taunton Area Chapter # 3938 Scholarship – One $500 scholarship will be awarded to a High School Senior intending to continue his or her education. This student must be a resident of Taunton, Raynham, Dighton, or Berkley. Completion of all items is necessary, including adherence to the closing date of April 18, 2008. No late applications will be accepted. Please mail applications at least one week before the closing date.

38. Rotary Club of Middleboro Scholarship – One graduating senior will receive a $3,000.00 award if they live in Middleboro and are planning to attend an accredited two or four year college or university program this fall, or an accredited trade school. Students who will be enrolled in a training program or who will be serving an apprenticeship that requires the purchase of tools and the like are also eligible to apply. Scholastic achievement, school and community activities will also be taken into consideration. Payments of this scholarship will be as follows: $1000.00 for the first year, and $2000.00 the second college year. There is a firm deadline of April 1, 2008 for this application. Please submit all completed applications to Mrs. Magny-Black in guidance by March 26, 2008.

39. SAMMY 2008 body by milk – this scholarship recognizes outstanding scholar athletes in grade 12 from high schools throughout the contiguous United States. There are 25 total scholarships awarded and the following is what they will receive: a $7,500 college scholarship from the Milk Processor Education Program, an invitation for winners, parents and/or guardians to attend a SAMMY 2008 weekend at the Disney World Complex in Orlando, FL scheduled for June 2008, an opportunity to be pictured in a special congratulatory Milk Mustache ad in June 2008 edition of USA TODAY and other national magazines. SAMMY 2008 applications will only be accepted online at bodybymilk.com until March 7, 2008.

40. Bridgewater Youth Soccer Association – will be granting 5 - $400 scholarships to Bridgewater student athletes who are attending Bridgewater-Raynham, Coyle Cassidy, Cardinal Spellman, or Bristol-Plymouth schools. Recipients must be residents of Bridgewater who have played soccer for Bridgewater youth soccer, contributed to the association, coach, volunteer or referee, and is planning to continue his or her education beyond high school. Please fill out application in scholarship bin. Deadline is no later than April 1, 2008.

41. Quota International of Taunton, MA – Two $500.00 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors who are residents of Raynham, Mansfield, Norton, or Taunton, and who intend to pursue a post-secondary education. Applicants are considered on basis of need, extra-curricular activities, scholastic ability, community service and resourcefulness. Since one of Quota International’s projects is aiding the hearing impaired, an individual who is hearing impaired will receive special consideration. Applications must be postmarked no later than March 31, 2008. Students should mail to the address listed directly on the bottom of the application.

42. Taunton Art Association – The Taunton Art Association annually awards a $500.00 scholarship to a senior student furthering his education in the art field. Interested candidates must complete an application form and be able to attend a 15-20 minute interview with the scholarship committee. A portfolio of you work must be brought with you at the time of interview. All applications must be received no later than April 1, 2008. Please pick up application from scholarship bin.

43. Columbia Lodge #540 Scholarship – The Order of the Sons of Italy of America will be awarding up to three (3) scholarships with a total value of $2,500.00 to a senior going on to a four year college, and who is of Italian ancestry (either mother, father or grandparent[s]). Application deadline is April 10, 2008. Please pick up application from scholarship bin.

44. Cranberry Country Chamber of Commerce – 3 - $1000 scholarships will be awarded to students who are planning to pursue a career in business by continuing their education at a college or trade school. Please pick up application in scholarship bin in guidance office. Application Deadline is Friday April 11, 2008.

45. Prince Henry Society of the Greater Taunton Area – Four (4) $1000.00 scholarships will go to college-bound seniors in the Greater Taunton area: Taunton, Berkley, Raynham, Dighton, Bridgewater, and Norton, and who are of Portuguese descent. The award is based on financial need and scholastic performance. Deadline for applications will be May 1, 2008.

46. American Chemical Society – The American Chemical Society Scholars Program is receiving applications for the 2008 – 2009 academic years. The ACS Scholars Program is currently in its thirteenth year of funding authorization by the Society’s Board of Directors. The scholarship is designed to encourage African-American, Hispanic, and Native American students to pursue undergraduate college degrees in the chemical sciences. The goal of the scholarship is to promote diversity. This scholarship will award 100 scholarships to undergraduate students interested in four-year degrees in the chemical sciences; those interested in transferring from two-year colleges to four-year colleges to pursue chemical science degrees; and to two-year students intending to pursue degrees in chemical technology. The scholarship is valued at up to $2500 per academic year for freshmen and up to $3000 per academic year for sophomores and up to $5000 per academic year for juniors and seniors.

47. Massachusetts Flower Grower’s Association – The Massachusetts Flower Grower’s Association will sponsor a scholarship award of up to $4000.00 depending on length of study. Applicant must major in a course of study in Floriculture, Horticulture or related agricultural sciences. Applicant must be a resident of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for a minimum of one year prior to submitting an application. Completed applications must be submitted by May 15th of the year to be awarded. Please get a copy of the application from scholarship bin.

48. Salem State College Alumni Scholarship Awards – This year the Alumni Association is offering four $1,600 scholarships to prospective students that are related to SSC alumnus. These scholarships are renewable for a period of up to four years. Application deadline is to be received no later than March 15, 2008. Please get a copy of the application from scholarship bin.

49. National Kidney Foundation of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Vermont – is offering scholarships for students planning to pursue post-secondary education. There are several different scholarship applications please pick one up at the guidance office and place close attention to which one you are applying for:

The future achiever’s award – In 2008 they will be awarding one junior, the opportunity to work as an intern in a laboratory during the summer months. The student will be awarded $2,500 in three installments over the course of the summer. Only two applications will be accepted from any one high school. If you are interested in this scholarship please see Mrs. Magny-Black and please mention this specific scholarship.

Academic Award – In 2008, one prospective college bound student will be awarded a $1,000 academic award. This scholarship is for a student whose life has been directly impacted by Chronic Kidney Disease. Please pick up application in scholarship bin in guidance office. Application Deadline is March 17, 2008

Dottie Lourie Memorial Scholarship – In 2008, a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an individual whose life has been directly impacted by Chronic Kidney Disease or a life saving organ transplant. Pick up application in scholarship bin in guidance office. Application Deadline is March 17, 2008.
50. Berkley Scholarships – If you are a Berkley resident, and you attended Berkley Middle School, an application for a variety of scholarships is available through the superintendent’s office. Deadline for these scholarships is April 4, 2008.

51. Dunkin’ Donuts Franchisee Scholarship Program – Local high school seniors residing in Rhode Island or Bristol County, Massachusetts are invited to apply for one of 100 scholarships in the amount of $1,000.00 each. 52. Howard and Mary Hayward Memorial Scholarship - This committee is accepting scholarships for essays for the 2008 scholarship award. This scholarship will be awarded to one student in the amount of $500. The criterion for this scholarship is located in the scholarship bin in the guidance office. Deadline for scholarship is by April 11, 2008.

53. Aggregate Industries/Dick Engler Memorial Scholarship 2008 – to high school seniors residing in the Whittenton community for at least two years who wish to continue their education. The awards are $1,000, $750 and $500 scholarships based on financial need and academic history. Residency is determined by the geographical boundaries of the Whittenton area as defined as: Bounded on the East by the Raynham Town line rt. 138, On the South by Exeter Street, Taunton State Hospital, Eldridge and West Britannia Streets. On the West by Fremont and Bassett Streets and the Norton Town Line. On the North by the Snake River and Field Street. All applications must be returned by March 8, 2008.

54. Scholarship Committee of Franklin Lodge # 23 – Franklin Lodge, # 23, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, will award 3 - $1,000 scholarships to students who desire to further their education. Requirements are a 250 word essay on the question “Should we grant immunity to illegal immigrants?” a statement from a reliable authority must accompany this essay, student needs to be accepted into an accredited post secondary school by the time of presentation of this scholarship. All entries must be received no later than April 15, 2008.

55. Massachusetts Arborists Association Gordon and Frances King Scholarship – Three annual scholarships are awarded to help recruit and educate commercial arborists at the University of Massachusetts and the Stockbridge School of Agriculture. For approved candidates, who successfully complete their first semester of study with a GPA of 2.0 or better will be awarded a $2500.00 scholarship. Deadline for this application is May 15, 2008.

56. Taunton Kiwanis Club Scholarship – Individual scholarships of $1,000.00 each will be awarded to high school seniors at B-P who reside in any of the following towns: Berkley, Dighton, Raynham, Rehoboth or Taunton. Academic standing, SAT scores, financial need, and completed application requirements will be considered. Deadline for this application is March 31, 2008. 57. Portuguese American Civic Club – PACC will award six $500.00 scholarships to high school seniors, who will be continuing their education in an accredited post secondary program. Two scholarships, one each for a male and female student, will be awarded in each of the following categories: Students who had successfully completed two or more years of Portuguese language studies, Students whose family member(s) is currently an active member of the P.A.C.C., Students who demonstrate a good academic record and have a financial need. Deadline to be postmarked no later than Friday March 28, 2008.

58. Kenneth J. Perry Memorial Scholarship Application – This scholarship committee will be awarding several $500 scholarships to high school seniors, who will be continuing their education in an accredited post secondary program. The scholarships will be awarded based on the following criteria:
a. Applicant is a graduate of Joseph M. Martin Middle School, b. Post secondary education plans related to the fields of Science and/or Education (teaching), c. Students who demonstrate a good academic record, d. Other factors that may be considered; Community and/or school involvement, financial need to meet college expenses, and participation in science fair type activities.

Deadline for this application is by April 17, 2008

59. Rob Roy Academy – Rob Roy Academy is giving (2) $1,000 scholarship toward tuition in there Cosmetology or Barbering program. Any senior who has applied or will be applying to this school please see Mrs. Magny-Black in guidance. Must be enrolled before May 31, 2008.

60. 2008 Student-View Scholarship Program – The 2008 Student – View Scholarship Program is offering $8,000 worth of scholarships to high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community/junior College or career school. The program includes: One $3,000 scholarship, two $1,000 scholarships, six $500 scholarships. To apply simple log onto www.student-view.com and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in your area. The scholarship will be awarded via random drawing of all completed applications. The scholarship winner will be announced in May 2008. Deadline is by April 22, 2008

61. Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of ORT America – Any interested senior can be considered for recognition. The qualifications are a high school senior who has maintained at least average grades, has done community service, is financially deserving, and is continuing his/her education. Each student will be required to secure two recommendations, one of which should be his/her guidance counselor. The deadline for applications is April 15, 2008. One deserving student will receive a $500.00 award.

62. The Bridgewater Garden Club – Is pleased to offer two $1500 scholarships to a student residing in Bridgewater or Raynham who is planning to major in one of the following areas: Agriculture, Earth Science, Horticulture, Botany, Ecology, Forestry, Conservation, Environment, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Urban Planning and Marine Biology. Please come to the guidance office to get a scholarship from scholarship bin. Deadline for application is before April 1, 2008.

63. The Boston Pearl Foundation, Inc. and the Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Soroity, Inc. – are accepting applications for its 2008 scholarship awards. Applicants for the awards must be African-American women who are seeking acceptance to a college or university as full-time students in the fall of 2008. Deadline for application is on or before April 25, 2008.

64. First Citizen’s Federal Credit Union – First Citizen’s is accepting applications for the $1,000 Barbara Whitehead Silva Scholarship. An applicant or parent/guardian must be a member of First Citizen’s Federal Credit Union. Applicant must be a high school senior who plans to attend a college or university to which he or she has been accepted for the 2008 – 2009 academic year. Students must submit all of the following items by the due date for your application to qualify for consideration. 1.) Completed application, 2.) A typewritten essay, no more than one page (double spaced), which addresses why you chose your major field of study and how it will apply to your career goals and a 3.) Comprehensive Official Transcript. Due date is April 5, 2008.

65. Triumph, Inc. Head Start Scholarship – Triumph, Inc. will award one $1,000.00 scholarship to a deserving high school senior or college student who attended a Head Start program as a pre school aged child. Deadline for scholarship is March 1, 2008.

66. Greater Taunton Charitable Association Scholarship – Seniors who are first time college students going into a two or four year program, who have financial need, US Citizen with a minimum high school GPA of 3.0, and who are applying for a major in one of the following fields: listed on the scholarship application. This organization will be awarding two $500 scholarships. Application deadline is June 1, 2008.

67. 2007 Robert J. Watson Memorial Scholarship – This award, established in 1989 to honor the memory of Robert Watson, Title I director for the Lynn Public Schools, will provide $1,500 scholarships for one or more graduating seniors who have been accepted into a post-secondary undergraduate program. Requirements are as follows: Demonstrated need, and applicant participated in a Title I/Chapter 1 funded Targeted Assistance or School wide program for at least one full academic year, at any grade level. The applicant’s participation could have taken place in either a public or non-public school, or as part of a program administered in a local/state-operated facility for neglected or delinquent children. Application deadline is April 18, 2008.

68. Holy Ghost Society Inc. of East Taunton Scholarship – An award of $300.00 will be awarded to a senior student who meets the following criteria: copy of acceptance letter from college you are planning to attend, letter from the applicant stating future education plans, transcripts of grades and courses, and completed application. Application deadline is April 25, 2008.

69. Taunton Girls Softball Inc. Any girl who has played for Taunton Girls Softball in the past is eligible to apply. Please pick up a copy of the application in the guidance bin. Deadline for application is by April 15, 2008.

70. Massachusetts Automobile Dealers Automotive Technician Scholarship Program – If you are interested in a career in the automotive industry and plan on attending a post secondary school to major in this, there may be money available to you. Every year this foundation offers scholarships worth up to $6,000 over two years and four full scholarships for eligible programs. Currently these include degree granting colleges: Massachusetts Bay, Middlesex Community Colleges, Hudson Valley Community College (NY) and New Hampshire Community Tech College. For further information and an application please stop by the scholarship bin in the guidance office. The application deadline for current seniors is April 25, 2008. Deadline for those individuals who have graduated already is June 6, 2008.

71. Taunton Garden Club – Graduating seniors who are planning on attending a post-secondary school and majoring in Horticulture, Floriculture, Landscape Design, Conservation, Forestry, Agronomy, City Planning, Environmental Concerns, Land Management, Botany, Biology, and other allied subjects are invited to apply for this scholarship, the amount to be announced after the deadline of April 25, 2008.

72. Marcus L. Urann Foundation Scholarship Grants – This grant, given through Bank of America, is for high school graduating seniors whose families are involved in the production of cranberries and eligible under the guidelines listed on application. Applications should be received prior to April 30, 2008.

73. Paul W. Couture Memorial Shop Award Scholarship – A graduating senior who is continuing his/her employment in the field he/she has been educated in (or a related field), and who has exhibited exemplary school citizenship through attitude and school participation is eligible for this award. Three (3) letters of recommendation from a shop teacher, related teacher, and a community member are needed as well. Deadline for this scholarship is May 9, 2008.

74. Paul W. Couture Memorial Scholarship Award - A graduating senior continuing his/her education in a recognized post-secondary program, and who has exhibited exemplary school citizenship through attitude and school participation is eligible for this award. In addition, three (3) letters of recommendation are required from his/her English teacher, an additional academic teacher, and a community member. Deadline for this application is May 9, 2008.

75. Somerset Federal Credit Union – Somerset Federal Credit Union is awarding two $1,000 college scholarships this spring through it’s community program. These scholarships will be awarded to college-bound Somerset Federal Credit Union members or dependents of a member. Applications are available in the Somerset Federal Credit Union lobby at 740 County Street. Deadline for the application is by April 15, 2008

76. Bristol County Farm Bureau $300 Academic Scholarship – a student applying for this scholarship must be either currently enrolled or plan on continuing his/her education at the college of their choice. The following guidelines apply: The student must be currently enrolled or continuing their education in an agricultural area of study. The student must successfully complete one semester of studies and the $300 scholarship will be awarded. The student must submit a written essay on why he/she should be awarded the scholarship (The essay must accompany the application). The student must be a resident of Bristol County at the time of application. The high school the student is attending must be in Bristol County. The application deadline is by April 25, 2008.

77. Bristol County Farm Bureau $300 Business Scholarship – a student applying for this scholarship must plan on entering his/her own agricultural business upon graduation. The following guidelines apply: The student must be in charge of the agricultural business and NOT going on to further his/her own education. The student must plan on applying the scholarship for either equipment or programs or classes to help him/her in the business. The student must submit a written essay on why he/she should be awarded the scholarship. The essay must accompany the application. The high school the student is attending must be in Bristol County. The student must be a resident of Bristol County at the time of application. The deadline is April 25, 2008 for completed application.

78. First Pioneer Farm Credit Scholarship Program– Up to 21 $1500.00 scholarships in total will be awarded across First Pioneer’s Local Service Area. Payment will be made directly to student in June 2008. Scholarship can be used to defray the cost of tuition, room and board, books, and other academic charges, Applicants are eligible to win this scholarship only once in their educational career, Award decision will be based on essay content, extracurricular activities, and commitment in agriculture, scholarship is merit based, winners of scholarship will be given priority consideration for First Pioneer internships in the summer of their junior year. Applications must be received by April 18, 2008.

79. Bristol Plymouth Teachers Association Scholarship – 2 scholarships will be awarded to 2 students one going to a senior who is furthering their education and the other given to a senior who will go to work. Please fill out application for appropriate category in the scholarship bin in the guidance office. Application deadline is for May 9, 2008. Please leave all completed applications for Mrs. Magny-Black.

80. Weir Corporation College Scholarship – One $350 scholarship award will be given to one student selected annually from all graduation seniors, who are Taunton residents, from each of the following high schools: Taunton High School, Coyle and Cassidy High School, Bristol Plymouth Regional Technical High School, and Bristol County Agricultural High School. The selection criteria is: financial need, aid received, and academics. Preference will be given to residents of the Weir section of Taunton. Please complete application and give to Mrs. Magny-Black. Application deadline is by April 30th.
